Help! There Is Sewage Water In My Shower!

Sewage water backing up into your shower or bathtub is not a very pleasant experience.

The main sewer most likely has an obstruction before your septic tank or the city’s sewer system. The main sewer is the line that connects all of the individual plumbing drains inside your home to your septic tank or the city sewer. When there is a clog, any wastewater that usually flows out of your house isn’t able to. With the drain lines being full of dirty water and raw sewage, and with nowhere to go, they are going to back up starting at the lowest parts of the home, which is usually the shower or bathtub.

If only one area of your home appears to be affected by this, the blockage could be in the branch line, also known as the secondary sewer line. You will know this may be the case because your other bathroom will be fully functional.

TIP: Sometimes, hearing gurgling or bubbling in your toilet is an indication that your drain may be about to back up. We suggest you don’t run any more water and call us for service. By doing this, you may avoid a full backup.

We will use an electric drain auger, also called an electric plumbing snake, to rooter the sewer line. Whatever is obstructing the flow of water will either be pushed on through to the tank or the city sewer. There are times when things will get caught on the cutter, which is attached to the end of the cable, and we’ll retrieve the items from the drain when we pull the cable out.

Some of the most common items causing the clog are roots, paper towels, feminine hygiene products, wet wipes, grease, and food.
